ABOUT WATERHOPE

Picture
Communities deprived of safe, clean, affordable water are powerless to rise above their unfortunate situation. Waterhope exists to make a difference in their lives. It is a “social business” that empowers disadvantaged communities by building water stations to provide safe, clean, affordable water, and by employing residents as water station dealers to teach them the skills to earn a livelihood and create a better life.

The Waterhope involves a multiple-step process to produce clean and safe drinking water that is sold to poor communities at a level cheaper than the market price. Income from the water sales then funds the community’s development through health, education and livelihood education programs run in the adjoining Community Centre.

The Community Development activities are undertaken in close consultation with local residents  and partner NGO. This essential involvement also encourages a sense of ownership of the development programs and the welfare of their community.

WHAT DOES WATERHOPE STAND FOR?
  •   Giving poor communities a hand-up rather than a handout
  • Relevant and community driven programs. Our programs are designed and implemented by NGOs that work in and understand poor communities. Intervention is not dictated or driven by donors, but by the communities themselves.
  • We stand for genuine partnership where all stakeholders have an investment in the program from inception to implementation. We invest in the partnership, sharing the risks, successes and addressing the failures together.
  • We stand for transparency and accountability to all stakeholders, but primarily to the communities we operate in.
